Simplicity is quality. This is basically what the Hamilton Khaki Field is all about. It is also the latest in a long line of military-themed watches that dates back to the Second World War. This watch is definitively a classic in the Khaki line which keeps the fundamental look, ruggedness and quality which men want from their watches. Its vintage look also makes it more pleasing to anyone.

The Khaki model line is vast and varied within the Hamilton stable.  These Khaki watches mainly have a simple, military inspired design about them and can be had in both quartz and mechanical (both manual wind and automatic) movements.

Hamilton has succeeded in something special with the Hamilton Khaki Field and many of their watches. They have made an affordable Swiss automatic that, thanks to Swatch, can easily be found in stores to try on first-hand. You should be able to find a Swatch retailer in almost any large metropolitan area and you can sample their watches first hand before buying. With many automatics in this price range coming from independent brands with no brick-and-mortar presence it’s nice to see that retail environments can still help someone stick to a budget and get a Swiss automatic. So if you are someone who aims to find a watch that is high on quality and functionality, the Hamilton Khaki Field should definitely be at the top of your list, especially if you’re looking for that one watch that can do it all.

Hamilton Khaki Field – Movement:

The Hamilton Khaki Field is manned behind by one of the Swiss ETA workhorse which is the ETA 2824-2. It is an automatic self-winding 25-jewel movement available in a variety of executions. This engine has given priority to making the watch more efficient and accurate. It has better weight and support which makes it effective overall.

The ETA 2824-2 has built-in Incabloc shock resistance, which was developed to allow end jewels to absorb shock and not be damaged. With regards to accuracy, leaving the watch crown up for 12 hours the movement will lose 0-1s and 1-2s in 24 hours. All other resting positions result in a gain of 1-2s over 8 hours. In other words, with a bit of judicious resting, this movement can be made to run as accurately as quartz. Nevertheless, this is mightily impressive timekeeping for any movement let alone for a watch powered by the Standard grade 2824-2.

Hamilton Khaki Field – Water Resistance:

The Hamilton Khaki Field boasts an extensive water-resistant feature that can be used all-around. No matter what you do for a living, you’ll have great allowance on the capability of this watch. 100 meters is deep enough for anybody and any water splashes of accidental contact with water would seemingly be compared to an ant bite taking account the power of this watch. Behind is simple design, you can’t expect less from the way it functions for any occasion.

Hamilton Khaki Field – Style and Design:

The Hamilton Khaki Field can never get simpler than it already is. With this simplicity however also comes sophistication in function so you never get behind in anything when you have this watch. It appears with a beautifully contoured and flawlessly finished case in brushed satin stainless steel with a plain polished steel bezel. Its numerals are nicely proportioned, neither too big or too small which gives it a clean look.

The date is located at the 3 o’clock position and the hands are very much in keeping with the vintage heritage of the Khaki and the pointer for the minute hand reaches into the minute track as it should. It has a nicely designed second hand with a good long tail and a dark red tip that adds a very dazzling spot of color to an otherwise mono-color dial. The numerals on the Hamilton Khaki Field are very fine couple with a high-classed leather strap that will suit any occasion.

The strap is slightly padded, has a mild gloss finish and is signed on the inside.  Contrast stitching offsets the overall look of the strap.  There are two keepers, one fixed and one semi-fixed, that is, it is secured from going too far up the strap by a nylon loop attached at the back.  A small but really nice touch.

Pros and Cons of This Hamilton Khaki Field:

Pros: The Hamilton Khaki Field main advantage is its simplicity coupled with brilliant functionality. Although it looks simple, you still have all the inherent functions you get from a bulky more expensive watch. Being a Swiss made watch, you can expect utmost quality and performance from this watch which you would normally get from a higher price one. It is powered by Swiss ETA 2824-2 which is one of the most high-graded engines used in many luxury watches today. It has unparalleled accuracy that anyone deserves for their watch. You get to have superb value for your hard-earned money considering what you can get from this Hamilton Khaki Field.

Cons: As with other models in the Khaki line, a common omission seen in the Hamilton Khaki Field is the protection of the Sapphire crystal. It is found that it can easily be scratched with continued use and not very good to look once it has. However, with proper user care, this problem can always be prevented. Additionally, the second hand of the watch has a low luminous feature but is compensated upon by the red tip which more than makes up from the lack of lumen. Clearly, the Hamilton Khaki Field is one of the few watches wherein you will not find many glaring omissions and faults which make it one of the best watches to take advantage of.
